Open up your shame, open up your doubt. Set your monster free, drift to sea. Sink into a current as angry as you are. Here you learn to breathe again.

A ritual to manifest the darkest parts of oneself, acknowledging V.R.’s potential as an incubator for increasingly sophisticated virtual experiences based on sensory gratification: porn, video games, other dopamine rush-dependent content. Spirit Monster offers an unpleasant feedback loop of emotions to the viewer, not dissimilar to the hormonal processes that occur when consuming popularized, more sensorily overwhelming V.R. content.

Self-care does its best to help us release our demons; I wanted to trap those demons inside a V.R. headset, and in so doing set them free. The viewer is overwhelmed and drowned in a void of darkness, then filled with new life and given new googly eyes with which to see the birth of their Spirit Monster.
